What does holistic living mean?

Holistic living is an approach to life that focuses on physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

It emphasizes the importance of living in balance with yourself and the world around you.

Living a healthy and holistic life is not just one thing. It is a combination of everything that you are doing on a daily basis. You can’t just change one factor of your life and expect everything to change.

Holistic living encourages us to take responsibility for our own wellbeing and to make conscious choices that are mindful of our own needs and the needs of others.

It also involves being aware of how our actions affect our environment and the people around us.

A perfect example of this is “Leave no trace.” We want to always leave areas the same or BETTER than how we found it. We don’t want to leave our trash everywhere and ruin the environment. And you also don’t want to treat your body like garbage either.

We only have one earth!

And we only have one life!

Let’s do our best to make our lives and our planets life better for us and for our children and future children.

Holistic living is an approach to life that encourages us to find a balance between our inner and outer worlds and strive for harmony in all aspects of our lives.

It does not have to be overly complicated.

Start small!

Start to slowly make positive changes in your daily life and build more healthy habits over time.

I always recommend starting with just one or two daily habits you want to start for a few weeks, and then slowly building on those habits over time. Our brains can’t handle too much change all at once, so don’t try to fight that instinct! You would just be setting yourself up to fail.

Set yourself up for success instead!

  1. Make sure to get enough restful sleep each night. Sleep is essential for your physical and mental health. I will never stop harping about the benefits of sleep!
  2. Eat healthy, balanced meals and snacks. Incorporate plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables into your diet and lots and lots of protein.
  3. Exercise regularly to keep your body strong and your mind clear. Start slowly, and aim for at least 3-4 days of exercise per week. This could be yoga, Pilates, kickboxing, walking, running, spin class, boot camp classes, HIT training, whatever your favorite form of exercise is, do it! And bonus points for mixing it up, too ?
  4. Create time for yourself to relax and unwind. Find activities that you enjoy and help you find balance. Our society loves the “Go, go, go” culture, but it is incredibly detrimental to both our physical and mental health. Make sure you take the time everyday to relax and not think about the stresses of the day or week.
  5. Spend time in nature to help connect with your spirit. Going outside in the sun has numerous benefits!
  6. Practice yoga or meditation to help stay centered. And you can also hire me if you want to take some private sessions!
  7. Connect with loved ones and make time for meaningful conversations. This could be with family, friends, neighbors, or even coworkers! It is so important to find “your tribe.” You need to find the people who you love and trust and can count on when times get rough.
  8. Avoid unhealthy habits such as smoking and drinking excessively.
  9. Keep a journal to help manage stress and capture ideas. You know how much I love journaling right?!
  10. Take the time to practice self-care. Spend time doing activities that make you feel good. This could be exercise, reading, writing, watching movies, or whatever else you love to do.
