Are you tired of feeling stressed out, achy, and constantly craving snacks?

Do you want to find a way to work on your flexibility while also pretending you’re in a Bollywood dance sequence?

Look no further than yoga!

Yoga has SO many amazing benefits, and it is the perfect exercise for beginners. You really don’t need any equipment besides many a yoga mat, and even that’s not necessarily a requirement. You can easily just do a yoga session on your living room carpet, or even on a blanket or towel.

Amazon has tons of different yoga mats, so find one that you like! I have acquired a few over the years, but my current one is a light pink color similar to this one below.

Have you noticed that I like pink? 😉

Here are the top 5 benefits of getting your yoga on:

  1. Stress Relief: Do you find yourself tossing and turning at night, worrying about deadlines, or the fact that there are only 24 hours in a day? Yoga can help! Not only does it help you relax and de-stress, but it also teaches you to let go of things you can’t control. So next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, strike a pose and remind yourself that you’re a warrior, not a worrier. Even just 15 minutes a day can be extremely beneficial.
  2. Improved Flexibility: Are you tired of feeling like a rusty Tin Man? Yoga can help you oil up those joints and get your body moving. And if you’re not naturally flexible, no worries! Yoga is all about finding your edge, not touching your toes. So don’t be afraid to modify poses or use props, like blocks or straps. You’ll be a pretzel in no time! Yoga is not about perfection, it is about your own health and wellness and the mind-body connection.
  3. Better Sleep: Do you find yourself scrolling through your phone at midnight, or counting sheep until the sun comes up? Yoga can help you catch some z’s! Not only does it help you unwind and relax before bedtime, but it also improves your overall sleep quality. So next time you’re having trouble sleeping, try some relaxing yoga poses instead of counting those sheep. You’ll wake up feeling like a new person! There are even yoga poses you can do right in bed, without getting up! Hopefully your hubby is not a light sleeper.
  4. Increased Strength: Are you tired of feeling like a weakling, or struggling to carry your groceries up the stairs? Yoga can help you get strong. Not only does it work your muscles in new and challenging ways, but it also helps you build endurance and stamina. So don’t be afraid to hold that Warrior II pose for an extra breath, or try some arm balances. You’ll be a superhero in no time! 😉
  5. Mind-Body Connection: Do you find yourself constantly distracted, or feeling like your mind and body are on two different planets? Yoga can help you connect the dots! Not only does it help you become more aware of your breath and body, but it also teaches you to be more present and mindful in your daily life. So next time you’re feeling frazzled, take a deep breath and remember that you’re a human being, not a human doing. It is okay to take a break when you need one!

Whether you’re looking to de-stress, improve your flexibility, get better sleep, increase your strength, or connect your mind and body, yoga has got you covered.

And if you’re not convinced, just remember: yoga pants are basically sweatpants that are socially acceptable to wear in public!

Do you want some easy yoga poses to try out?

Here are a few that pretty much anyone can try. And don’t worry if you find any of these challenging, this is called a yoga PRACTICE, it may take years to achieve certain poses, and that’s okay. This is not a competition! And never be afraid to use props like a block. I use them ALL of the time in my practice and I have been doing yoga for over 10 years.

Okay first things first…

Mountain Pose (Tadasana): Tadasana is probably my favorite poses. I always think of a someone shouting “Ta-Da” whenever I say it! Stand tall, shoulders relaxed, and arms at your sides. Imagine yourself as a majestic mountain and try not to topple over.

Downward Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana): Start on your hands and knees, then lift your hips up and back. Voila! You’re a canine stretching after a long nap. If you’re feeling adventurous, add some barks and tail wags to your practice.

Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II): Take a big step back with your left foot and bend your right knee. Pretend you’re a fierce warrior ready for battle, or if you prefer, a sassy dance move from the ’90s. Strike a pose and don’t forget to smize. Sink down and feel the power in those legs of yours.

Child’s Pose (Balasana): Get down on all fours and stretch your arms out in front of you. This pose is a great opportunity to take a nap, just make sure you don’t drool on your yoga mat. Bonus points if you can sneak in some snoring 😉

Tree Pose (Vrksasana): Stand on one leg and place the sole of your foot on the inside of your opposite thigh. If you’re struggling to find your balance, pretend you’re a flamingo or a tree swaying in the wind. Just don’t topple over like a lumberjack chopping down a tree. You can also place your foot gently on your other foot/ankle or on your shin.

Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana): Lie on your stomach and push up with your arms. Hiss like a snake and scare off any unwanted guests. If you’re feeling particularly daring, add some fang action and stick your tongue out. Too far??? Okay, I’ll reel it back in lol.

Bridge Pose (Setu Bandhasana): Lie on your back and lift your hips up towards the ceiling. Congrats, you’re now a bridge! Just don’t forget to keep breathing.

Triangle Pose (Trikonasana): Stand with your legs apart and reach towards your right foot with your right hand. Pretend you’re a giant ruler or a slice of pizza. This pose is perfect with a block by your ankle.

And there you have it, 8 easy yoga poses for beginners!

Remember, yoga isn’t just about fitness, it’s also about having fun and not taking yourself too seriously.

So strike a pose, snap a pic, and don’t forget to laugh at yourself.
