Five Small Changes You Can Make Today To Live A Healthier Life
Everyone wants to be healthier right?
Even elite Olympic athletes still want to keep improving upon their health everyday.
You don’t have to train like an athlete to be healthier either. There are SO many small changes you can make on a daily basis to reach your goals.
I also recommend just choosing one or two small habits at a time so you don’t get overwhelmed. Maybe you start with walking outside everyday for a few weeks. Then you can add on another habit for a few weeks, and so on and so on.
This is called habit stacking!
It is one of the best ways to build a bunch of healthy habits everyday without your brain getting overwhelmed. Most of us humans really do not like change, which is why developing new habits can be very difficult!
So start small and pick one or two habits from my list that you can implement into your daily life, and then start habit stacking!
Before you know it, you will be a much healthier version of yourself 😉
1). Drink lots of water!
The old guidance said to drink at least eight 8 ounce glasses of water per day. BUT, I think the best way to measure and track if you are getting enough water or not is to look at your pee!
I know it sounds gross, but that is probably one of the best ways to know if you are drinking enough water or not. You want it to be a very light yellow, but not clear. Clear means you are drinking too much, and yellow means you are not drinking enough.
And make sure you also add a pinch of salt, and I like to add a squeeze of lemon for some added Vitamin C too.
2). Get enough sleep
Sleep is SO important. Most people are not getting enough sleep per night, and that needs to change.
Everyone requires a different amount, obviously, but a good general rule of thumb is men should get about 8 hours of sleep per night, and women need a little bit longer. The new research I have seen says most women need about 8-10 hours of sleep per day!!
So if you can, try and go to bed a little earlier tonight 😉
3). Exercise
Exercise is also so important to living a longer, fuller and healthier life.
Even just a small walk around the neighborhood everyday can be very beneficial. This is another area where you should start small!
If you are new to exercise, start with just a 1 mile walk. Then slowly increase to 1.5 miles, to 2 miles, and so on.
I am thinking about developing a 30 day walking program. Would you like to see exercise programs like this in the future?
You don’t have to jump two feet into it, either! That can just lead to injuries and wanting to give up.
Slow and steady truly does win the race.
4). Disconnect from your phone
I think just about every adult (and child) that I know is addicted to their phones!
We are all on our phones way too much per day and it really isn’t healthy.
This is another area where we can all start small. Start with not using your phone for the first 30 minutes after you wake up or not using your phone right before bed.
5). Eat more servings of fruit and veggies
Maybe start having a salad with chicken or steak a few times a week. Have a smoothie or smoothie bowl for breakfast. Or add another serving of veggies to dinner a few nights a week.
Just start slowly introducing healthier foods into your diet each week, and you will be surprised by how good you feel!
